Prorated rent calculator
Moving in or out in the middle of a month? Enter the monthly rent and the first and last day you pay for. You get the prorated rent for each month and the total. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere. It is saved only in this browser.
Your lease decides the method. Landlords prorate in different ways: by the number of days in that month, by a 30-day month, or by a yearly daily rate (rent × 12 ÷ 365). Check your lease or ask your landlord or property manager which one they use.

A full calendar month is charged the full monthly rent. Each partial month is worked out on its own and rounded, then the months are added up.
Worked example
Rent is $1,500 and you move in on October 21. October has 31 days, so you pay for 11 days (October 21 to 31, both included).
- Days in that month: $1,500 × 11 ÷ 31 = $532.258… → $532.26
- 30-day month: $1,500 × 11 ÷ 30 = $550.00
- 365-day year: $1,500 × 12 ÷ 365 × 11 = $542.465… → $542.47
The same move-in date can differ by almost $18 depending on the method, so it is worth checking which one your lease uses.
Other uses
- Moving out: set the start to the 1st of the month and the end to your last day.
- Subscriptions and monthly fees: some services charge a partial month by day. Check their billing terms.
- Salary for a partial month: employers use their own rules (calendar days or working days). Check your contract.
